pThe most common types of water leaks in a home can be avoided by simple maintenance. Home maintenance is very important to prevent water leaks whether it is the exterior of your home or a simple dripping faucet in the Kitchen. A water leak can cause visible and hidden mold if you do not have a Home Maintenance Program./ppRecently, I personally had to deal with a toilet leak from the water hose going to the toilet tank. This hose was five years old and it looked fine until I looked closer and saw fine droplets of water starting to come out of the edge of the compression fitting. Wow, got lucky this time and am very grateful it did not get a chance to develop into a serious flood. Checking your toilet water supply hose is important because of this factor. You would not believe how many floods we have been on in the last 15 years caused by the same type of hose. Cost to replace $6.79 in Home Depot. Cost of a flood, thousands in your home./ppThe three most common sources of water leaks in homes are the following:/pp1. Washing Machine Hoses
br2. Water Heaters
br3. Shower Leaks Due to The Cracked Grout./ppThe good news about these is they can be prevented by simple maintenance. Common sense tells us to develop a Maintenance Schedule to check these things out on a regular basis. The smart thing is to check these items once a month. After you read this article, I would highly recommend you check them all. It is easy to check a pipe but a flood can cause havoc in your life and the effects are expensive./ppDo not think just because you have Homeowners Insurance that you can become complacent. Yes, they will take care of the problem but the aggravation is not worth it. Ask anyone who has ever had a flood in their home if they would ever want to do it again. Remember, you also have a deductible./ppThere are new types of hoses available that are a braided metal which are tougher than the original equipment that was installed. I personally installed that new type of hose on my toilet. The manufacturer says the pipes cannot burst and cause a flood. The cheaper hoses were $3.49 and the better quality were $6.79. I bought the better quality because of the guarantee. I would suggest you change your hoses immediately if they are over 5 years of age. Remember, the chlorine in the water will start to eat away at the inner liner of the hoses. It is better to be safe than sorry./ppThe grout of the shower is easy to spot when it starts to crack if you take the time to look. This type of leak can cause serious hidden damage that can cost you thousands of dollars to fix. The average shower replacement is $5,000 and up. A tube of good quality caulk is about $2.50 at Home Depot or Lowes. If you do not know how to caulk, both of these firms have classes on the weekend. Check with the manager of the store to find out when the next class is./ppA Hot Water Heater leak is hard to detect early. If you see rust on the bottom of the heater, start thinking about replacing it. I had to replace mine about two years ago, saw the rust but was too slow to replace it. It was fine one day, came home from work and there was water on the Garage Floor from the leak. The fortunate thing was it was located in the garage. It could have been much more serious had it been in my house. I also installed a drain pan under the Hot Water Heater with a drain line to the exterior just to be sure next time./ppIn conclusion, check your water hoses on the toilet and washing machine once a month. I would also recommend checking the Hot Water Heater at the same time. There are water leak alarms you can put below the toilet in the back and Hot Water Heater that sounds off if they sense water in the area. I would recommend getting one for each location in your home. The grout can be checked each time you take a shower. Just look, you will be surprised how easy it is to do this type of maintenance. Remember, No Moisture No Mold./p p a href=http://diyhomedepot.sabuyblog.com/ rel=dofollow title=http://diyhomedepot.sabuyblog.com/http://diyhomedepot.sabuyblog.com//a /p

Water Leaks and Mold – How to Avoid Them Both
The Different Kinds Of Savings Accounts
pIt’s always advisable to try and put some money aside for a rainy day, so that if you meet an unexpected expense or repair bill you’ll be able to cope financially. It’s also prudent to save some of your income as an investment for your future, especially in these days of uncertain pension prospects. Many people choose to invest in stocks and shares as over time this is likely to provide the best return, but for the majority of us the security of a bank savings account is more attractive. That being said, what kind of savings account should you choose?/ppThe first kind of account we’ll look at is known as a regular saver. With these accounts, you deposit a certain amount every single month. In the past, this amount tended to be fixed at a specified figure, but these days most accounts allow you to deposit an amount within a specified range. These accounts are a good choice for people with no capital but some surplus income, and usually pay a good rate of interest./ppThe other kind of account is the deposit account, which has no stipulation as to how you pay money into it. You can put in small amounts as and when you can afford it, or you can deposit a large amount when you open the account and leave it there, or a mixture of the two. These accounts come in three basic flavours, depending on how easily you need to get at your money./ppFirstly, the instant access type of deposit account places no restrictions on when you can withdraw your cash. Next, the interest penalty type of account will let you withdraw as you wish, but won’t pay any interest for the months in which a withdrawal is made. Finally, a notice account requires you to give thirty, sixty, or even ninety days notice before you make a withdrawal, or you’ll be hit with substantial interest penalties./ppIn general, the easier it is to get at your money, the less interest you’ll earn. Of course, this will vary from bank to bank, and you might be able to find an easy access account with a better interest rate than a notice account with a different bank, but the general rule holds. For these accounts, you need to trade off the likelihood of needing access to your money against the extra gains you could make by locking it away./ppThere’s one other kind of savings or investment account which takes this idea of access restrictions to the extreme, namely bonds. With these accounts, you invest a lump sum in the account which is then locked away for a specified number of years, with no access at all. In return, you’ll either get a preferential fixed interest rate which is much more attractive than normal accounts, a variable rate guaranteed to be better than average accounts over the length of the term, or a return linked to stock market performance with a guaranteed minimum return, These accounts will almost always give the best return out of all the types, but are only suitable for long term investments where you are certain you won’t need to access your funds before the term is up./p p a href=http://airpurifiers.zonblog.com/ rel=dofollow title=airpurifiersairpurifiers/a a href=http://diyhomedepot.gujaba.com/ rel=dofollow title=http://diyhomedepot.gujaba.com/http://diyhomedepot.gujaba.com//a a href=http://futon.zonblog.com/ rel=dofollow title=futonfuton/a /p
Non ChexSystems Banks And How To Find Them
pMillions of Americans are on a list that they definitely do not want to be on. It’s the list created and maintained by ChexSystems identifying people who have had banking problems in the past. It’s also the list that prevents millions of us from getting a new bank account each year. If you are on the list, you know how severely it can affect your life. It is difficult and expensive to live in modern society without a bank account — simple tasks such as cashing a check, paying a bill, or getting cash are made much more difficult. Check cashing fees and money orders can take a big chunk out of each paycheck./ppIf you are on the list, it is important for you to know what ChexSystems is (and what they are not). ChexSystems is not a bank — they are a database company that acts as a consumer reporting agency (CRA), collecting data about banking customers. In particular, ChexSystems maintains a nationwide database of banking customers who have been reported for writing bad checks, defrauding banks, having unpaid bank debts, or having too many non-sufficient funds (NSF) items. ChexSystems tries to keep a low public profile (and they’ve done a pretty good job of it). ChexSystems does not have a company Web site, and it is relatively difficult to find information about them./ppIf you are on ChexSystems list, you have three options. First, you can decide to live without a bank account, and pay the extra expenses and deal with the inconvenience of using Check Cashing stores, Money Orders, and using cash for most transactions. Second, you can try to get off the ChexSystems list (which is not impossible, but can be confusing and difficult for most people). Finally, you can search around for a bank that doesn’t use ChexSystems and that will allow you to open an account even though you are on the ChexSystems list. Luckily, a number of Federally Insured Banks and credit unions do not use ChexSystems. Unfortunately, finding one can be like finding a needle in a haystack./ppA number of Web sites and classified ads claim to have a list of non-ChexSystems banks. Unfortunately, most of these lists are out of date and inaccurate. Even worse, many of these lists cost money (with no refunds available!)./p p a href=http://remodelingnetwork.wordpress.com/ rel=dofollow title=remodelingnetwork.wordpress.comremodelingnetwork.wordpress.com/a /p
What is a Bank Levy?
pA bank levy is when your bank account is frozen and all or part of the monies in your bank account is seized. Bank levy’s can happen for many reasons, however the two most common are due to unpaid taxes and unpaid debt./ppA bank levy just doesn’t happen immediately; usually it is the result of a creditor trying to force a debtor to repay a debt. Obviously in the case of taxes, if the IRS has sent you a letter stating that you owe taxes and you either refuse to pay the debt or don’t respond to their requests by either making a repayment plan or trying to work with them towards repayment, a tool they will use is a bank levy. They will freeze your accounts and seize any money in your account up to the amount that you owe./ppThe bank account can be almost any type of account (e.g. savings, checking, etc) and while most levy’s occur in the US, the IRS or other creditors can sometimes go after off shore accounts. Once a bank levy is made on your account, any money that is in the account will be seized. If there is not enough money in the account, all money will be removed and your account will usually remain frozen until the debt is paid off./ppIt should be noted that while the IRS are usually the ones that use this method the most, other creditors have used this method to receive repayment for their debts. For instance, if you have a judgment against you for a credit card debt, the creditor can file for a bank levy to be placed on your account. While state laws differ, in most cases certain monies in your account are exempt including welfare payments, social security payments, VA benefits, child support, etc. If a bank levy has been placed on your account by a creditor, you usually have 30 days to contest the levy (in the case that monies that were seized are exempt). If a bank levy occurs, you should contact the court to find out how to file for an exemption immediately./ppIt should be noted that a bank levy can occur quite frequently and it is not a one time event. A creditor can request a bank levy as many times as he or she would like to until the debt is paid off. Many banks charge a penalty to their customers if their bank account receives a levy. This amount can be over $100 each time. It should be noted that any checks that have been written before the event that have not been cashed will bounce, because your account is frozen. It should also be noted that withdrawals can not occur, but in many cases deposits can. So if you have received a bank levy and have your employer deposit money into your account, this money will be seized as well./p p a href=http://ducttape.zonblog.com/ rel=dofollow title=ducttapeducttape/a /p
The Living is Easy in Your Own Backyard
pToday’s homeowners are more familiar with stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot then any other ones. It’s the smart homeowner who knows that there isn’t any better place to invest his money, or his or her time. You can create your own paradise right in your own backyard. The only thing that limits your landscaping design is your imagination./ppPerhaps you entertain often with lots of cook-outs and barbecues. Have you ever thought of an outdoor kitchen? They’re becoming more and more popular and you can certainly build one within your price range. How about building a gazebo in your yard? Gazebos are lovely focal points and wonderful shady places to enjoy a picnic or get together. Outdoor fire pits are becoming more popular too. They provide a place of warmth on a cool spring or summer evening./ppSome homeowners like to invite nature into their backyards. Some do this by simply adding a birdhouse or bird bath. A simple bird bath is enough to bring birds into your back yard. If you add a specially designed bird house, you’ll have even more feathered friends showing up. Another way to invite wildlife into your backyard is by installing a backyard pond or pond and waterfall./ppIt’s not difficult to build a pond but it is heavy work. If you plan your own pond you can have any shape or size that you want in your landscaping. You can also purchase preformed pond forms in a variety of sizes. Once a pond is established with aquatic plants, fish and scavengers it is fairly easy care. Imagine how lovely it would be sitting on your deck overlooking your pond./ppAnother fabulous water feature in any backyard is a waterfall. A waterfall can be built in conjunction with a pond, or with a pond. Again, a waterfall can be created in any size that you want. These are both very easy DIY projects for those with some skills, but a strong back is a must./ppOnce you’ve added the waterfall and pond you’ll want to add lovely landscaping around them with shrubs and flowers. It’s true that some people have green thumbs and some don’t, but what those with green thumbs really have is experience. The way to a lovely garden is to follow a few simple rules. First, proper soil. Second, proper lighting exposure for each plant. Although perennial plants initially cost more than annuals, perennials will return year after year, and generally within 3-4 years need to be thinned which gives you more plants for your garden!/ppKeep in mind before undertaking any large landscaping project have a final plan in mind. You don’t want to dig a pond or spend time planting a large garden and then find yourself digging it up a few years later to move it. Depending on what you want to do it may be worth your while to invest in having a professional landscaper come to your home. They will be able to give you advice about your ideas and tell you the best use of space for your design./p p a href=http://diyhomedepot.istoreblog.com/ rel=dofollow title=http://diyhomedepot.istoreblog.com/http://diyhomedepot.istoreblog.com//a a href=http://glassshelves.zonblog.com/ rel=dofollow title=glassshelvesglassshelves/a /p
A List of Basic Hand Tools For Setting Up Shop
pBelow I recommend several brands of tools. These are tools I own and have a lot of experience with or have used in the past and like. This doesn’t mean that these brands are the only ones out there or are even the best. Ask around and find out what other people like and use. Ultimately you have to make your own decision on which tools are best for you and how you work./ppWoodworking covers so many facets that it’s difficult to come up with a tool list that covers the needs of every woodworker. Many tools are used for a very specific task, while others are more general tools that you find yourself using for most projects. The latter is what I’ll concentrate on in this article. Just keep in mind that if you want to learn how to make guitars (a Luther), or build a canoe, etc…there will definitely be tools that you will need that won’t be on this list. This is just to get you started. I’ve been working wood for over 10 years and trust me there are still many tools I would love to have. But just like I did you start with the basics and buy other tools as you find a need for them./ppHand Tools/ppMachine tools: screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, set to wrenches, pliers, crescent wrench. These are things that most already have around the house, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to have a set of these tools that are dedicated just to your shop so you don’t have to hunt all over the house when you need a Phillips screwdriver. These can all be picked up at your local hardware store./ppSet of bench chisels: 1/4 to 1. I’ve used a set of Marples chisels for years. Irwin has bought them so they may show up under their name now. The full set costs around $50.00 Cheaper chisels just won’t hold an edge (meaning they dull too easily). The Marple chisels hold an edge OK. Home Depot and Lowes used to carry them but they’re not showing up on their websites now. Amazon.com has them for $50/ppHandplanes: A jack plane (sometimes referred to as a No. 5) and a low angle block plane. The jack plane gets it’s name from being the jack of all trades. It’s a medium size plane and can be used for many tasks. I recommend buying a used one, specifically an old Stanley No. 5. Look at flea markets and garage sells or try eBay (this is where I got mine years ago). A block plane will be one of the most used tools in your shop, so buy a good one. If you can afford it Lie-Nielsen.com or Lee Valley.com both have excellent low angle blocks from $75 to $119 A cheaper alternative would be a Stanley 60 1/2 low angle block for around $40./ppHandsaws: panel, or Japanese Ryoba and Dozuki. Western saws cut on the push stroke; Japanese saws cut on the pull stroke. My advice is to try out both and see which you like better. Each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I like the Japanese saws for most jobs, but I still like a western type saw for cutting dovetails. Lowes and Home Depot both carry Japanese saws. Another good place to look is Japanwoodworker.com/ppLayout tools:tape measure, small and large size try squares, marking gauge, pencil compass, 6 and 12 rulers, bevel gauge, combination square./ppHammer: 16oz standard and a wooden or dead-blowstyle mallet for working with chisels and other tools./ppCard scraper: an inexpensive tool that is indispensable in the shop (especially if you dislike sanding). These tools can take extremely thin shavings of wood and leave a very smooth surface. They can be tricky to sharpen though. We’ll cover scrapers more in depth in a future article./ppRasps: a coarse and fine cabinetmaker’s style. These are used to shape wood especially table legs./ppThere’s my list of basic hand tools to get you started. Some, you will need from the very beginning. Some you can wait on. My advice is to figure out what you want to make with your woodworking and then start building. You’ll figure out quickly the tools you really need and the ones you can wait to get./p p a href=http://diyhomedepot.choseit.com rel=dofollow title=http://diyhomedepot.choseit.comhttp://diyhomedepot.choseit.com/a a href=http://futon.zonblog.com/ rel=dofollow title=futonfuton/a a href=http://diyhomedepot.anyhow5.com/ rel=dofollow title=http://diyhomedepot.anyhow5.com/http://diyhomedepot.anyhow5.com//a /p

But replacement parts there are, and you will have no problem finding whichever one you need. What Does NASCAR Stand For?
pTo the non-fan, bNASCAR/b stands for Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks….it’s real meaning is National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. To corporate America it stands for Big Business/ppNASCAR and their premier division bNextel Cup/b is the second most watched sport in America, only the NFL tops it for attendance and television audiences. On any given weekend during the season, more race fans pack race tracks to capacity, than any major sporting event… All-star Game, Superbowl, or PGA Golf Tournament. The website ‘NASCAR.com’ gets over ONE BILLION hits a year/ppThe Nextel Cup features 26 weekly races, plus a 10 race playoff type schedule. It’s the only sport that has what’s called It’s Superbowl as the first race of the season. The Daytona 500 is viewed by over 30 million, over 180 thousand pack the grandstands and infield each year for that event./ppThis sport that many assume their fans to be white, male, and southern. Well, that assumption is just plain wrong. NASCAR’s fan base is made up by 40% woman, in fact, NASCAR has more women watching, than the NFL or Major League Baseball. The minority fan base increases each week, making up about 10% at this point. The average income of a bNASCAR Nextel Cup/b fan is 83,000 a year./ppYou see corporate sponsor names everywhere, on the cars, uniforms, tracks, and merchandise. NASCAR fans are the most Brand Loyal in the world. These sponsor names cash in on that loyalty…bDale Earnhardt Jr./b fans drink Budweiser, you won’t find a lot of bTony Stewart/b fans setting one foot inside a LOWE’s, because Tony is sponsored by Home Depot, bJeff Gordon/b fans paint with nothing but Dupont paint, etc. It cost 10 to 20 million per year for the top teams to be competitive and Corporate America is more than happy to cough up that kind of cash for what they get in return. It costs sponsor’s around a million and a half dollars a season just to have their company name on the trunk lid of a top Nextel Cup car./ppThe drivers are the stars and they offer everything from: good looking, ugly, fat, tall, thin, smart, dumb, intelligent, stupid, macho, wimpy, young and old. You can’t find another sport that offers the drama week in and week out that a bNASCAR Nextel Cup race/b offers./ppThis is only a brief overview of America’s second most watched sport, there is a lot more to uncover in future articles related to NASCAR, but you can not deny, that NASCAR is the best

Oil Pastels – Discover a World of Brilliant Color
pA CONTEMPORARY MEDIUM/ppOil pastels are a fairly new art medium. In the mid 1920’s, the first soft pastel was developed. Called Cray-pas, this soft pastel was considered an upgrade from crayons. It wasn’t until 1947, upon the request of the artists Pablo Picasso and Henri Goetz, the materials manufacturer Sennelier set about to create a soft, artists’ quality pastel./ppPicasso wanted a pastel stick that could be used on a variety of surfaces, like wood, clay or canvas. Goetz want a pastel which could be used with directness and immediacy, and would allow him to work directly on a surface, without brushes, palette knives or any other kind of tool.
brSennelier came out with a soft oil pastel in 1949. It had a desirable soft consistency, was available in a broad range of brilliant colors and the pigments were of a professional permanent and acid-free quality. Sennelier’s oil pastels were the seminal oil pastel sticks from which all other brands have originated. More recently, a larger oil pastel stick was developed which enables artists to create large, colorful works, without the accoutrement of oil painting: turpentine, linseed oil, rags, brushes, palettes, and palette knives. The qualities of immediacy and directness have made large oil stick popular among many contemporary artists./ppThe pigments in hard pastels, oil pastels and oil sticks are the same as those used in oil paints. The essential difference between oil paints, hard and soft pastels and oil sticks is the binder ingredient used to hold the pigments together. Oil paints are basically pigments in a base of linseed oil and drying agents, liquid enough to be extruded from a tube. Hard pastels have less oil and wax binder than oil pastels. Oil pastels, having more oil and wax content, are softer in consistency and body. To date, oil pastels are available in two qualities: student and professional./ppHARD AND SOFT – THE DIFFERENCE/ppChalk or hard pastels have been around longer since the Renaissance. (Leonardo DaVinci wrote about pastels and many of his drawings were done in red chalk.) Hard pastels can be blended with the finger or with a small blending stick to produce subtle shadings of subtle and delicate shading and highlight effects. Because of their hard, dry consistency, they are powdery, semi-transparent and excellent for creating smooth, seamless transitions of color./ppBecause oil pastels are softer, they are semi-opaque in nature. One color can be layered over another color and successfully cover it. Many overlapping layers can be created. integrating two colors with oil pastels can be done with networks of small lines or strokes. Because oil pastels have great covering ability, they can replicate the process of painting with oil paints or acrylics.
brOil pastels, because of their wax and oil content, never completely dry. For the finished artwork, an application of acrylic varnish will protect the oil pastel surface. An oil pastel artwork is best protected by a mat, glass and a frame. Thinned, an oil pastel’s consistency is much like water color, and can employed in washes and transparent overlays of colors. Oil pastels can be diluted with turpentine or mineral spirits. Oil pastels can be used on any porous surface. The best support for durability and permanence is an archival, acid-free, heavy weight paper, board or primed canvas./ppCREATING A SUNSET – VIBRANT COLOR TRANSITIONS/ppIn depicting a sunset, for example, where colors may consist of a variety of shades oranges, reds, purples and blues, integrating each color area can be done by blending one color into another by layering with small line networks. Laying down an area of light orange, then going over it with small strokes of dark orange will begin the gradation. Light orange can be brought back in over the dark orange to introduce the necessary light/dark gradations. Then the darker orange can be brought in to make the gradation more explicit. By using small, networks of lines, each color can be worked into by other colors until the desired effect is achieved. By blending colors in this way, transitions from one color to another are smooth, but the vibrant quality of intermingling line networks of colors is retained./ppCREATING A SELF PORTRAIT – SUBTLE COLOR TRANSITIONS/ppAnother example of integrating colors with oil pastels can be demonstrated in self portrait. Upon close observation, one can see that skin has many subtle flesh colors. One area in the cheeks, for example, may be redder. Color areas around the chin may have a yellow hue. Color areas around the eyes may have blue or browns. Let’s take the cheek area, for example. A basic flesh tone has been put down in that area. A redder blush of skin tone can be produced by introducing a network of small lines of a light pink color over this. Now, the flesh tone color can be layered with small lines over the light pink. The interplay between these two color areas will produce the blush in the cheek area. Working with exchanges of these two colors, a third or even fourth color, for example, light blue or light green, may be subtly interlaced with the flesh tone and pink networks to produce subtle color passages which replicate even further the many colors exhibited in flesh./ppPORTABILITY – PICASSO’S LEGACY/ppIf you choose to go out to the woods, the sea shore, or your backyard to create a colorful, painterly artwork, there is a definite advantage to using oil pastels. Just pack up your box of oil pastels, tablet of paper and head on out! In your hand, oil pastels will act quickly to catch a certain slant of sunlight. a shoreline quickly changing from green to blue because of clouds coming up from the horizon, or shadows moving across a forest landscape./ppIndeed, you can see how oil pastels were the product of Picasso’s need to work quickly, with expression and using a broad range of wonderful colors. And you can use your oil pastel drawings and sketches as references for oil paintings because the colors of oil pastels translate well to the painting medium. Immediacy and directness are qualities in oil pastels that make them truly a contemporary medium./ppSTUDENT OR PROFESSIONAL QUALITY?/ppIf you are considering working with oil pastels, buy good quality (professional) pastels. They will have a dense body of pigment and stronger layering qualities. Professional quality pastels will most accurately duplicate the small-line networking color integration technique described in this article./ppCheaper student grade oil pastels have a higher wax content and because the pigment body is less dense, they are often more like crayons and will not layer or cover well. In cheaper oil pastels, often the more expensive pigments have more wax and oil binders. This keeps the price low, but also the quality. For the most part, student quality oil pastels are much more transparent and colors, even upon heavy application, will appear washed-out and faded./ppENJOY!/ppThe brilliance of colors, ease of use and portability of oil pastels makes this art medium a wonderful tool to try, whether you are just discovering your creative self or want to experiment with a new medium. Discover oil pastels for yourself and enjoy creating beautiful, colorful artwork!/p p a href=http://diyhome.blogetery.com/ rel=dofollow title=diyhome.blogetery.comdiyhome.blogetery.com/a /p
